Note that this project is worth more than your other projects. Think of it as the equivalent of a midterm.
1000-1500 words total
In preparation for the final project, group members will perform preliminary research on one or more potential topics. Each team member will identify a group of high-quality sources related to one specific topic: one podcast or documentary, one book, and three news articles. They will then write short, thoughtful summaries of each source as well as a summary assessment of their topic’s potential.
Please note that all group members might choose to work on the same potential topic or they might choose to separately explore 2 or 3 potential topics. In either case, there should not be overlap of sources between group members.
Podcast or documentary (1) -- approx. 250-350 words
Must be of high quality.
Give the title and creator’s name of the Podcast or Documentary, then write an additional 250-350 words thoughtfully summarizing it and assessing what it contributes to your understanding (or fails to contribute).
Book (1) -- approx. 250-350 words
Must be written by an academic or a respected journalist.
I'll expect you to thoroughly read the introduction and a chapter of your choice. Give the full bibliographical citation for the book, then write an additional 250-350 words thoughtfully discussing it and assessing what it contributes to your understanding (or fails to contribute).
News Articles (3) -- approx. 250-350 words
Must come from reputable, high-quality news organizations and include author by-line.
Give information about the articles, including their title, author, date published, and publication, and then write an additional 250-350 words thoughtfully summarizing it and assessing what it contributes to your understanding (or fails to contribute).
Summary of the Topic’s Potential -- approx. 250-500 words
After you've done the initial research:
* Does this strike you as an important topic with potential policy implications? Why or why not?
* Is there more for you to learn about this topic? What else are you curious to learn?
* Is it interesting to you, your group members, and others?
* Include any other relevant information you weren’t able to include in the sections above.
